On Tuesday the 13th of August Year 9, 10, 11 Music and Year 10 Drama went and experienced the new Australian stage show ‘Three Weeks in Spring’ at the State Theatre. The contemporary musical is centred around the Australian diggers experience at Gallipoli and features an insight into the lives of iconic Australian stories such as Simpson and his donkey and Colonel Monash. The show also gave insight into the role of women during the war; this included managing Australian soil whilst the soldiers were aware, nurses and doctors at the battleground and at Australian bases in Egypt and as propaganda for the war. ‘Three Weeks in Spring’ was superbly arranged and featured a young Australian cast that brought to light an important part of our history. It was also wonderful to discover that the musical director was NSGHS Alumnae Zara Stanton. Following the show we enjoyed lunch in the Botanical Gardens and dropped into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, where the music staff are all alumnae. Overall, it was a fantastic experience.
