NSG commemorated Anzac Day with a special assembly which was held last Wednesday. Our guest speaker, Dr Douglas Newton who taught history at Macquarie University, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, and was an Associate Professor teaching European History at the University of Western Sydney from 1991 until his retirement in 2008. He taught a History Honours course in the First World War for twenty years. He is the author of a number of studies of war and peace, most recently, The Darkest Days: The Truth Behind Britain’s Rush to War, 1914, Hell-bent: Australia’s Leap into the Great War, Private Ryan and the Lost Peace, published in April of this year.
