Charities Day is a whole day school event encouraging school-wide participation in raising awareness for three important social causes. The three causes we wish to highlight this year are: children, Indigenous Australians, and those people impacted by natural disasters. Through ChildFund Australia, Waltja, and the NSW Farmers’ Natural Disaster Relief Fund, Charities and Social Justice Council aim to help support these charities.
ChildFund Australia is an independent international development organisation that works to reduce poverty for children in disadvantaged communities. ChildFund Australia directly manages and implements programs in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Vietnam. These programs are funded through sponsorship, donations, and government grants.
Waltja is a community-based organisation working with families from Central Desert (NT) Indigenous communities to address community issues and alleviate social distress, establishing youth services and providing support for families, disabled individuals and elders. Waltja also sell goods such as paintings, where the money they earn goes back into their social programs.
The NSW Farmers Natural Disaster Relief Fund is used to support NSW farmers affected by bushfires, floods, and drought. Recently, NSW Farmers Natural Disaster Relief Fund has been working with farmers to repair and replace fencing destroyed by the 2019-2020 bushfires.
During Charities Day, students will be able to participate in games, purchase foods and other items with pre-bought tickets. The profit collected from these student-organised activities will be donated. Through Charities Day, we hope to not only support these causes, but also raise awareness in a fun and interactive way.
To help our Charities and Social Justice Council prepare prizes, food products, drinks, raffles etc we are always looking for sponsorship. Prizes for our talent contest or items we could re-sell would be greatly appreciated. Donations to the three causes will also be possible closer to the day. If you are able to donate products or prizes please email Ms Connors on firstname.lastname@example.org and write CHARITIES as the subject.
We look forward to sharing Charities Day with our whole school on Friday 25th June.
