Hinamatsuri Craft

It is a festival for girls and families wishing for their daughter’s continued health and happiness. Families display dolls dressed in decorative robes from the ancient imperial court. Such displays of dolls are often passed down through the generations. The festival is a traditional family event marked with special dishes too.

Year 11 and Year 12 students studying Japanese made paper version of the dolls (hina-ningyo) to display at home, and learnt about the festival and the way it is celebrated in Japan today.

Japan is a land full of traditions which are still observed today, and it is important for students to understand and learn about how these events are significant to Japanese people even today.
