Japanese HSC Speaking

On April 5th, we were lucky to have Yoshino Sensei from the Nihongo Tanken Centre (https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/languages/nihongo-tanken-centre) help both of the Year 12 Japanese classes with speaking practice. We divided into small groups and participated in the workshop online. This lesson was a valuable experience as speaking is a large component in the Japanese Stage 6 syllabus. It was very helpful having an external party practice this skill with us as it simulated exam conditions without the pressure of being graded. Despite how speaking to someone new pushed us out of our comfort zones, Yoshino Sensei was a very welcoming person and always encouraged us to continue speaking. After every question we answered, he always praised us on what we did well and provided constructive criticism on our weaker points. This included how to convey a better impression to an examiner and how to change an answer to one more complex and nuanced. Overall, the lesson was a very enjoyable and educational experience thanks to Yoshino Sensei’s teaching, and we are very grateful to Mrs Mizoshiri and Mr Tran for their organisation of the online lesson.
