On the 27th of March, the Japanese Extension cohort gathered on Zoom to participate in a workshop that enriched their study of the prescribed film, Kimi no Na wa. The resourceful Japanese Teachers Association of NSW (JTAN) ensured that the workshop ran smoothly despite current COVID restrictions.
During the 3-hour workshop, Mr Damon Cooper (Central Coast High School) encouraged students to survey Kimi no Na wa from a film analyst's angle and broadened our appreciation for and understanding of the text. Mrs Sally Mizoshiri (NSGHS) presented an in-depth guide on how to tackle the challenging "Empathy Tasks" that invite students to write creatively (in Japanese!) from the perspective of characters in the film. Students also received extensive supplementary materials to aid their studies in the course.
All of our students found this a helpful and enjoyable experience. Thank you to JTAN for organising this workshop to support the 2021 Japanese Extension HSC cohort, and thank you to the teachers who gave engaging talks despite the difficulties of presenting online!
