On the 27th of February, the JTAN committee hosted a state-wide workshop for students studying the Japanese Extension course on Zoom. Despite covid restrictions, the teachers were able to provide a wonderful learning experience that enhanced students’ knowledge of the prescribed film Kimi no Na Wa (2016) by Makoto Shinkai.
During the 3 hour workshop, students were given an in-depth analysis by Mr. Damon Cooper (Director of Teaching and Learning, Central Coast Grammar School) of the film techniques that Shinkai used to construct the film.
This was then followed by a presentation from Mrs. Sally Mizoshiri (NSGHS) who guided students through approaching the empathy task where students write from a character’s perspective in Japanese. The students were also supplemented with study materials to provide further assistance in their studies.
Thanks to the efforts of Mr. Damon Cooper and Mrs. Sally Mizoshiri, all of our students were given a great opportunity to learn and gain a deeper appreciation for the film. Thank you to the JTAN for organising this amazing workshop and we hope to participate in more events this year!
