Edition 131 - Friday 22nd May 2020

From the Principal

As we finish Term 3, it is with mixed feelings we farewell our much loved Year 12 cohort. We wish all our students well as they begin an intensive study period before their HSC exams. For families experiencing the HSC with their daughters it is a time that requires patience, love, good food and nagging reminders of bedtimes and 8-9 hours sleep. Sharing Luncheon, Graduation and all the festivities of the last week has been very special.

The Graduation supper was a wonderful event hosted by our P&C. Thank you to Mrs Alice To, Vice President Social for her superb coordination of this event. Thank you to the P&C executive committee, all parent helpers and the fabulous support of our canteen volunteers and managers.

A special thank you to:

We have had so many successes in Term 3 and I wish to congratulate all students on their fine efforts in their academic and extra-curricular lives.

To keep literacy as a priority I have asked all students in Years 7 to 11 to complete assigned activities in their Wordflyers accounts. A unit of work has been assigned that may take a number of hours over the next three weeks to complete. Submissions are due the first Friday of Week 1. Please encourage your daughter to complete these mandatory activities and to go on and complete any additional options she might like.

Congratulations to our Year 9 Visual Arts students who took out five prizes in the Northbridge Youth Art Prize. The overall Grand Prize was awarded to Bella Zhang. Best in Category “Sponsor’s Voucher’ was won by Rainy Chen with Michelle Hong and Lucy Lu runners up.

We have received much praise in regards to our recent Band Tour to the Blue Mountains. Our junior students were impressive in behaviour and performance. Thank you to Mr E. McKnight, Ms E. Shute and Ms M. Sywak for conducting and supervising this tour. Thank you to the parents who also accompanied and made this tour possible.

Last week we witnessed the fabulous performances of our Drama and Dance ensembles. The energy, talent and enthusiasm was obvious. Thank you to our many students who performed and teachers Mr A. Stojanovic and Ms A. Glennie. Our Senior Hip Hop ensemble performed in elite company at the Sydney Dance of Champions and were impressive finalists.

Congratulations to Vivian Tran (9), Jessica Kim (10) and Kathlyn Lowardi (10) who competed admirably in the Wakaba Division of the 50th NSW Japanese Speech Contest.

Our Taekwondo team made up of Annabel Chen, Winny Li, Sarah Luu, Cindy Qin, Melissa Thien, Katriel Tran and Jessie Ye competed successfully at the Australian championships. Winny won a Gold Medal, while Sarah, Melissa, Annabel and Katriel won Silver medals. A fantastic effort at the highest level. We also congratulate our netball and volleyball teams who competed in netball Grand Finals and the School’s Volleyball Cup. Thank you to our P&C Sports’ Committee, convenors, teachers and parents who made these achievements possible.

On Wednesday night the P&C hosted the University Admissions Centre (UAC) who presented information on the HSC and scaling. Thank you to our P&C and Ms Evangelista, our Careers Advisor, for organising this evening.

We have a number of staff taking leave in Term 4. Mr Rutherford, Mr Shapcott, Mr Slade and Ms Cleghorn will enjoy their long service leave. In Week 2 of Term 4 we farewell Ms Sanders who will begin her maternity leave. We welcome a new permanent teacher to our Science staff – Ms Teresa Lee; who will teach Chemistry, Biology and junior Science.

Thank you everyone to your commitment and support in Term 3. Have a wonderful holiday.
